Another Round(2020)

The umpteenth movie on drinking and addiction. But this Danish movie directed by Vinterberg will serve as the best of the lot. Here’s why 

Movie doesn’t start with a  habitually drunk person/group. It starts with four 40+ high school teachers who are just stuck to their routine official and family life which most can connect.

They decide to start an experiment how small amount of alcohol in the day can help them remain active and lively through out the day. It does help them even beyond their expectation and this is where the movie triggers the inner-liquor-lover in you. You start enjoying the newly added fun in their lives and agrees with them even when they start increasing their consumption bit by bit.

When we start feeling Martin will get back the lost charm in his life, alcoholism ruins it again. He even loses his partner in crime to alcoholism when he dies in a pool.

Mads Mikkelsen delivers a stunning feat as the worn out high school teacher and a family man struggling with midlife crisis. All the four actors has shown the stages of growing alcoholism to absolute perfection and in the most believable way.

The ending of Another Round could just be a whirlwind one for the viewers !! One It has that amazing dance scene by Mads Mikkelsen in the end, an iconic one at that! He starts of slowly and gets lost into absolute freedom with “What A life” by Scarlett Pleasure played in the background. If he was drinking to pull his lost life back earlier, now there’s nothing standing in front of him as obstruction!! Second the way it ends with Mads just jumping into the same pool where his friend died. As cathartic as the end scene was, it was equally worrying for me !
